For international students, the moment they set foot in the US marks the beginning of a new life. Speaking a foreign language, adapting to new social rules, eating food with unfamiliar flavors… these can all trigger a range of unforeseen emotions. From language barriers to the ambiguity in understanding culture and educational style in the US, all these factors can make us feel extremely confused and lost.

Don’t worry too much, throughout 20 years of research, coaching, and accompanying young Vietnamese students in the US, NEEC Education has observed that many Vietnamese students encounter this psychological state when they first start studying in the US.

To help students best prepare psychologically for their upcoming study abroad journey, NEEC Education has invited Dr. Lê Nguyên Phương to speak in a seminar on 17.06.2023 with the topic: PREPARING MENTALLY BEFORE STUDYING ABROAD.

Dr. Lê Nguyên Phương:

Dr. Lê Nguyên Phương holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and School Psychology from California State University, Long Beach, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California, USA.

He is a speaker with over 18 years of experience as a School Psychology expert in large school districts in California, USA; he is responsible for evaluation, consultation, and intervention for children from preschool to 12th grade. He also teaches in the Master’s programs in Psychology and School Counseling at California State University, Long Beach, and Chapman University.

In addition, Dr. Lê Nguyên Phương provides consultation and psychological therapy services for clients of all ages experiencing mental instability, including stress, anxiety, depression, and particularly complex psychological trauma. He is known as an expert in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Short-Term Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Experiential Therapy.

Dr. Lê Nguyên Phương is the co-founder and president of the International School Psychology Development Association (CASP-I), which aims to establish School Psychology as a profession in Vietnam. This organization successfully lobbied the Ministry of Education and Training to issue Circular 31/2017 and subsequently developed the Master’s program in School Psychology at Hanoi National University of Education and School Counseling at the University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

With these achievements, in 2011 he was honored with the Outstanding International School Psychology Practice Award by the International School Psychology Association (ISPA) and later became a Fulbright Specialist of the US Department of State from 2014 to 2019.

In 2018, Dr. Lê Nguyên Phương chose to return to Vietnam to actively participate in the field of Psychology domestically. His two volumes “Raising Children in Confusion” are among the best-selling books, and he received the “Best Book in Vietnam” award in 2018 for this work. He is currently a freelance speaker, trainer, and author in the field of psychology and education.

Expert Bung Trần:

Currently, he is the Vice President of the Advisory Council of Saigon Innovation Hub and Vice President of Flying Fish Investment Startup Fund. He was the Director of Da Nang Business Incubator – DNES, author of the best-selling book series “The No.1 Employees in Vietnam” and many other titles about startups and career development.

He has contributed significantly to the Vietnamese startup community for over 12 years. He has managed leading companies, been an investor, a consultant, a startup policy advisor, and connected and supported international startup programs to Vietnam. He has also been a lecturer and speaker at over 200 talks on innovation, communication, entrepreneurship, work-life balance…

His dedication to work and meditation has given Bung many opportunities to explore the world. He sees himself as an environmental activist, aiming to connect people and nature, especially in creativity and startup ecosystems through the lens of Earth science – an autonomous method.
