The school also reported that 611 students were rejected, and 5,055 applications were deferred to the Regular Decision round. Among the admitted students, 13.9% are African American, 9.8% are Hispanic, 24.2% are Asian American (up from 21.7% last year), and 10.2% are international students (according to Harvard Crimson).
Every year, U.S. universities have several different admissions rounds, including Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision, and Rolling Admission.
Early Decision (ED) is a binding admission round:
In contrast, Early Action (EA) is a non-binding admission round. You are allowed to apply to multiple schools. If accepted, you are not obligated to enroll in that school. The EA deadline is from November 1 to December 15 each year. Admissions results are announced between January and February.
This year, Princeton University accepted 799 students out of a total of 5,402 applications in the EA round. This is the largest number of applications submitted to the school in the past 7 years, an 8% increase from last year. International applications (from international students) accounted for 11%. (According to Daily Princeton).
University of Pennsylvania announced that it accepted 1,312 students in the ED round out of a total of 7,074 applicants. Although the number of ED applications was the highest ever, the acceptance rate was the lowest (18.5%) since 2011. The number of international applications submitted in this round increased by 5% compared to last year and accounted for 16.5% of the total applications submitted in this round (according to Daily Pennsylvanian).
