During the seminar on April 23, 2022, with the theme “Common Misconceptions About Studying in the U.S.,” Mr. Tran Duc Canh – Admissions Advisor at Harvard University (USA) – received many questions from parents about cultural integration and community life in the “land of the free.”
In particular, some parents expressed concerns about the challenges that international students may face, such as depression, gender discrimination, racism, etc. Mr. Tran Duc Canh reassured parents through his insights into life in the U.S.
1. POSITIVE CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE
According to Mr. Canh, although cultural and community integration barriers still exist in the U.S., the government and schools have implemented many measures to bring about positive changes.
2. SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELING SERVICES
Each student has different circumstances and adaptability, especially those living far from their families. Understanding this issue, most schools in the U.S. have psychological counselors ready to support and help students overcome psychological challenges, enabling them to better adapt to the living and learning environment in the United States.
3. DIVERSE AND GROWING STUDENT COMMUNITIES
Currently, the U.S. has many diverse student communities, such as the Black community, minority groups, the LGBT community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender), etc. All these communities receive positive support from both schools and society, creating favorable conditions for all students to adapt and integrate better into academic and community life in the U.S.
