🔥 The United States has always been an ideal destination for students who wish to study in a top-quality environment. Thus, it’s easy to understand why the journey to get into a U.S. university is never easy.
✨ Sharing is Caring. Honest sharing from those who have gone through the process will surely be a solid foundation for students. Let’s listen to the exclusive sharing from NEEC’s outstanding student – Lê Minh Trang, about her journey to conquer the dream of studying in the U.S. Lê Minh Trang has been with NEEC since the early days of applying to high schools and continued to conquer challenges at the doorstep of university. Here’s a quick profile of her:
⚡ Former student of Saigon South International School (SSIS) with a GPA of 4.28, SAT score of 1450, and TOEFL score of 109.
⚡ Scored perfect marks in 3 AP (Advanced Placement) subjects.
⚡ Received the highest scholarships for international students from two universities: 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 ($100,000) and 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐬 – 𝐀𝐦𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭 ($60,000).
ATTENDING STUDY ABROAD SEMINARS
Personally, I found that self-researching study abroad applications was not enough as it easily wastes time, money, and effort. Therefore, my parents and I turned to experienced people through reputable study abroad seminars.
I learned about NEEC through my parents after they attended a seminar organized by the center. My family decided to choose NEEC after feeling that the study abroad counseling plan was clear, and the teachers were experienced and understood the study abroad application processes. Here, I was provided with a specific roadmap and received help throughout the time of preparing applications, taking exams, and submitting applications.
I have a very memorable memory when a teacher from Lawrence Academy came to Vietnam to interview me, but my parents were busy, so Ms. Viên accompanied me and helped me feel much more confident to complete the interview in the best way possible.
CONSULTING A CLEAR ROADMAP
After participating in ability tests and being asked about my current conditions, interests, career goals, etc., NEEC outlined a study abroad application plan that suited me. Ms. Viên, Ms. Ngọc, and the advisors at NEEC were very enthusiastic and specific about everything, from taking exams, and IELTS, to writing essays and participating in extracurricular activities.
As I was preparing my application during the pandemic, there were many difficulties, such as SAT exam dates being continuously canceled, which made me feel tired. But Ms. Hương was always very dedicated and accompanied me, helping me solve the doubts in my mind. Ms. Lan and Ms. Ngọc also helped me a lot in finding ideas and refining my essays. Thanks to this, in addition to the main essays, I was honored to receive additional scholarships after participating in the You Are Welcome Here competition of 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲.
CHOOSING SCHOOL & MAJOR
I chose UMass Amherst because the school is ranked 5th in the U.S. for the quality of my major and I received a scholarship worth $60,000/4 years (the highest scholarship for international students). The school is highly rated for its good teaching facilities and also provides many opportunities for students to intern at leading companies in the U.S.
I also plan to study a minor in Computer Science, and as far as I know, UMass is highly regarded for the quality of teaching in this field, with alumni being accepted into top tech companies. According to Mr. Cảnh’s advice, Amherst is also a very safe college town with many quality universities near UMass like Amherst College, Smith College,…
