[New] 100% Online Study in Vietnam Still Qualifies for a Work Permit in Canada After Graduation
International students continue to be a critical focus for the Canadian government, especially in fostering economic development post-pandemic. As a result, studying and immigrating to Canada has never been easier. Recently, the Canadian government announced:
“International students are allowed to study 100% online outside of Canada and still qualify for a work permit in Canada after graduation. Specifically, all online study periods from Spring 2020 until August 31, 2022 will count towards the time required for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP).”
Current Canadian Policy
Under the current Canadian policy:
If you are enrolled in a program of 2 years or more, you will be eligible for a work permit in Canada for up to 3 years. For certain programs shorter than 2 years, you can complete two consecutive programs with a combined duration of 2 years or more to qualify for a work permit in Canada for up to 3 years after graduation.
If your program is between 8 months and less than 2 years, the duration of your work permit in Canada will be equal to the length of your study.
The new announcement allowing international students to study 100% online also applies to those who complete two consecutive programs, as long as the combined duration of both programs is 2 years (each program must be at least 8 months long) and both programs are completed between March 2020 and Summer 2022.
