Founded in 1890 in Watertown, Connecticut, in the northeastern United States, The Taft School is named after its founder – Horace Dutton Taft.
On the website www.niche.com, for the academic year 2017 – 2018, The Taft School was ranked 6th among private high schools in Connecticut and 23rd among private high schools in the U.S. Taft is leading in the number of students accepted into prestigious universities each year, including Georgetown University, Trinity College, Boston College, Cornell University, Columbia, and Yale.
Currently, the school has nearly 600 students from 33 states across the U.S. and 44 countries worldwide. The acceptance rate for the 2017-2018 academic year was 11%, with 39% of students receiving financial aid.
Taft students come from 44 different countries, bringing cultural diversity to the school. As an international community, Taft students participate in a broad range of extracurricular activities and comprehensive in-class programs. Students also have ample opportunities to develop leadership skills at Taft, from positions in the student council to clubs and dorm activities, fostering leadership and active participation in community service both inside and outside the school.
Currently, the school boasts 68 clubs and more than 30 different advanced courses in Arts, Languages, Communications, Science, and Technology, as well as personal interests. Taft’s courses are among the best high school programs in the United States.
Taft students are encouraged to develop holistically in talent, academics, arts, and sports.
