Choosing a major and school is always a top concern for parents when sending their children to study in the United States. During the seminar on April 23, 2022, with the theme “Common Misconceptions About Studying in the U.S.,” Mr. Tran Duc Canh – Admissions Advisor at Harvard University (USA), shared some insights on selecting a major.
1. RESPECT YOUR CHILD’S CHOICES
Parents should allow their children to choose the major they wish to pursue. Instead of imposing decisions on them, parents should encourage their children to self-assess and make suitable career choices. If the student is still uncertain about which major to choose, parents can provide guidance based on their strengths, interests, and academic performance in that area.
2. YOU CAN CHOOSE “UNDECIDED” WHEN APPLYING TO SCHOOLS
Many students, including American students, haven’t decided on a specific major even at the time of applying to college. Fortunately, universities in the U.S. allow students to select “Undecided” when submitting their applications; they can choose their major after exploring different options during their first years in college. This gives students additional time to freely explore and decide on the most suitable major.
3. TRUST YOUR DECISIONS
Once you have thoroughly researched and made a decision, trust your choice. Take the opportunity to explore various aspects of the major you wish to pursue and discover the opportunities it brings.
At NEEC Education, students receive thorough and detailed advice to help them choose the most suitable major.
