During the program, the students were equipped with essential medical knowledge and skills to protect themselves and ensure their health and safety—an indispensable part of a study-abroad student’s journey.
In the training session, Dr. Lê Xuân Long explained the causes and ways to handle common health issues such as stomachaches, headaches, toothaches, fevers, allergies, etc., so that the students can respond on their own if they encounter such situations.
For instance, if experiencing a stomachache, how can one differentiate between a digestive issue, a stomach problem, or appendicitis? How should one handle a burn caused by household cleaning agents? What are the three crucial steps to remember when dealing with thermal burns?
Dr. Long jokingly said, “These are skills I want you to remember very well, but I hope you never have to use them.”
Additionally, other situations such as sunburn during travel, how to lower body temperature, and how to keep warm during winter in the U.S. were also thoroughly discussed by the doctor and his team.
Ms. Nguyễn Thị Phúc, the parent of Trần Nguyễn Hà My, shared, “I find these lessons extremely beneficial, helping me feel more at ease when sending my child abroad without me being there to take care of her. I hope NEEC will organize more sessions like this in the future.”
See you again in NEEC’s future training sessions.
