With 29.7% of the population having received at least one dose of the vaccine, Canada is among the top 30 countries with the highest percentage of the population vaccinated with at least one dose globally (as of April 24, 2021).
The federal government has confirmed that Canada is still on track to ensure that everyone who wants to get vaccinated can receive a free COVID-19 vaccine by the end of September.
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada has received over 13.7 million vaccine doses from manufacturers. More than 11 million of those doses have been administered to eligible individuals in provinces and territories.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC): “COVID-19 vaccines will be provided free of charge to everyone in Canada who is recommended to receive it, whether they are citizens or not.”
International students may begin to receive mass vaccinations starting in May this year, as vaccine supply to Canada exceeds 2 million doses per week, with more to come in June. Depending on vaccine supply in each province, region, or city, many Vietnamese international students have already been vaccinated in Canada.

In Manitoba, all adults, including international students, will be eligible to register for the COVID-19 vaccine starting from May 21.

In British Columbia (B.C.), everyone who wants the COVID-19 vaccine and is eligible to receive it will be able to get their first dose before July 1, 2021. The COVID-19 vaccine is available to all adults living, working, or studying in B.C. during the pandemic.

In Ontario, all adults aged 16 and older, including international students, will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination starting from July 2021.
The prospect of vaccines is bringing optimism to colleges, universities, and international students in Canada. Many schools are working with stakeholders, from faculty and staff to local health authorities and suppliers, to prepare for reopening in September.
