UPDATE ON ENTRY INTO CANADA

The latest announcement from the Canadian Government on 07/19/2021 includes the following key points:

1) A clear quarantine plan is required:

  • All international students must have a 14-day quarantine plan when entering Canada. This requirement may still apply even if the student has been fully vaccinated.
  • The quarantine plan needs to be declared through the ArriveCAN app before the student arrives in Canada.

2) Consideration for fully vaccinated travelers:

  • To be considered fully vaccinated, travelers must have received the full series of COVID-19 vaccines or a combination of vaccines accepted by the Government of Canada, at least 14 days before entering Canada.
  • Currently, the accepted vaccines are Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD, and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson). These vaccines are not yet widely available in some Asian countries like South Korea, Vietnam, or China. However, students can receive the vaccine for free upon arrival in Canada.
  • Fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from the 14-day quarantine if they test negative upon arrival at Toronto airport (it usually takes 1-2 days to receive test results).
  • Random testing will be conducted on fully vaccinated travelers upon entry into Canada. However, unvaccinated travelers will still be tested upon arrival in Canada and again after 8 days as per usual procedures.

3) Exemption from the 3-day hotel quarantine for all travelers entering after 12:01 am on August 9, 2021

  • Students aged 18 and over will be exempt from the 3-day government-mandated hotel quarantine starting from August 9, 2021, upon entry. However, they must still complete the mandatory 14-day quarantine at their homestay or private accommodation.
